Stars Hit the Ice With Preseason Action

Dallas Stars hockey is finally back, much to fans’ relief.
Two 2-1 victories over the St. Louis Blues have the Stars looking promising in the early go of things.
In this far-too-early preseason analysis, the Stars have plenty of fight and spirit.
Players that fans have probably never heard of are getting their opportunity in an incredibly short, 4-game preseason.
Some of these players are already making such an impact that there’s a small chance they’ll see NHL action this season.
There are lots of positives to take away from the first two games.
Jack Becker
Many Stars fans watching the first two games were saying the same thing about many players on the team: “Who is that guy?” Jack Becker is one of those guys. 57 players qualified for the Stars’ training camp, so many of them have an extremely limited chance to make an impression. Becker is one of those players who made an impression immediately. He dropped the gloves in the first period, then scored the game-winning goal in the 2nd. He logged only 10:34 of ice time in that game and did not play the second.
Aged 29, he has moved around various minor leagues, settling in on the Texas Stars over the past few seasons. He scored 40 points last season in Cedar Park, showing that he can perform. Maybe we see him up again this season.

Fighting
One sure-fire way to gather attention is to drop the gloves. Preseason games have lots of fights from players looking to make the team. They have that spirit, ready to go. Kyle Burroughs also went at it in both games. He is a defenseman with 200 games of NHL experience at age 31.
Why not call him up this season?
The Stars’ blue line is in premium company with Heiskanen, Lindell, and Harley. One thing missing back there is a real bruiser. The Stars only fought 13 times last season. Derian Hatcher used to do that number in a weekend. They need physicality this season. Players who aren’t afraid to throw the body around should see ice time.
Jack Becker and Kyle Burroughs likely won’t see any NHL ice time this season, and many other players were sent down to the Texas Stars.
This is a long, tough season after extending to 84 games. These guys may provide relief for a select number of games as they try to prove themselves this preseason.
