RECAP: Rangers and Minnesota Twins Begin a Three-Game Set; Fall in First Game, 4-2
The Rangers came home from a 6-game, 6-day road trip where they went 3-3.
They were 35-36 coming into Monday night’s game, while the Twins came in at 33-40.
MacKenzie Gore gave up a double and a walk between 2 outs before Josh Bell took him deep for a 3-run shot on an 0-2 pitch, and the Rangers trailed 3-0 early.
Skip Schumaker told the media after the game:
“The line probably tells a different story than what he actually was out there. I thought it was one of his best outings of the year. His fastball was explosive, his changeup was excellent, a couple of curveballs, unfortunately, he probably wants back…”
Rangers Only Offense
The Rangers got two runs back in the 3rd on a single to right field by Elias Diaz and a Joc Pederson homer that cut the lead to 1.
Gore pitched a great game the rest of the way and made it through 7 innings, giving up just one more run on a homer off the bat of Byron Buxton.
Gore told the media after the loss:
“I thought from the get-go I felt good throwing the ball, just I hung two curve balls in the first inning, and I thought we made the adjustment… Just wasn’t getting the curveball in the right spot…when we were ahead.”
The Rangers’ offense fell flat the rest of the way. Joc Pederson had a 2-3 night with a hit by pitch; other than that, no one had more than one hit.
Schumaker had this to say:
“We were missing the fastball. I think it was Joc who had a really good swing on the cutter. Didn’t get much traffic other than that. A couple of singles and a couple hard hit balls, but other than that not too much action…”
The Rangers couldn’t get anything going on Monday night on the offensive side.
These two teams meet up again tomorrow to continue the series, with the Rangers sending Kumar Rocker to the mound.
Rocker has been a better pitcher at home, and he looks to get the Rangers back on track to get over that .500 record hump finally.
