Malcolm Moore Looks to Be Living up to the First Round Hype
Malcolm Moore is on a hot streak that is opening a lot of eyes to him.
He got off to a rocky start in the first two years of his professional career. In 2024, he hit .209 with three home runs and 12 RBIs, and struggled more in 2025, hitting .195 with three home runs and 27 RBIs. He got off to a similar slow start in 2026. He hit .174 with a .522 OPS. Then, in May, he became the best hitter in minor league baseball.
He has slashed .429/.515/.821 with five home runs and 13 RBIs. Moore has also been more patient at the plate with 7 walks versus 11 strikeouts compared to the 7 walks and 15 strikeouts that he had in April. He has earned recognition for his hot May, claiming the South Atlantic League Player of the Week due to eight multi-hit performances.
The biggest improvement Moore has made is his power. In the first two years, Moore only hit 6 home runs. He has already passed that number in only about six weeks. It has come mostly over the last eight games as he has swatted five of them in that span.
This is something the Rangers could use, as they have gutted their farm system through the MacKenzie Gore trade and a couple of other trades over the past few years as they have tried to contend.
If Moore can pan out, then that would be a great asset to get a catcher who can hit.
