The Bipolar Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers just completed the toughest part of their schedule.
Almost every team they faced to begin the season is a postseason contender.
The last series the Rangers pulled off was against the Pittsburgh Pirates back on April 21-23. The offense once again is not showing up, and the defense has been laughable at times. Pitching has been the Rangers’ saving grace again. The rotation has been very good, and overall, the bullpen has been good.
After all that struggling on offense and defense, the Rangers welcomed the Cubs. The Chicago team was on a 9 game winning streak as they arrived in Arlington.
After taking game 1 against the Texas team, the Cubs were shut out in back-to-back games as the Rangers took the series.
The Rangers have an opportunity to take control of the American League West at the end of May.
They are playing teams that are all currently struggling for the remainder of the month.
If they can’t take advantage of the schedule they have sitting in front of them, they don’t belong in the playoff conversation.
The AL West is down, and the Rangers have a great opportunity to take control of the reins. They have failed to do so each of the past 2 seasons.
2026 has shown us glimpses of what this team can be. They have offensive power. They have defensive ability.
Wyatt Langford will return from the IL soon. Corey Seager will heat up at the plate.
The Rangers have a great opportunity in 2026; they just need to learn to play consistently.
“I still believe in this defense,” manager Skip Schumaker said to the media after the loss Friday night.
“You have to trust them. I can deal with [the other team] getting hits and a guy getting a home run, that type of thing. I’m OK with it if we’re challenging guys. But when we’re not challenging guys, good teams make you pay.”
The Rangers need to stop being bipolar and become the team they can be if they play up to their potential.
If they don’t, we will be “blessed” with another underwhelming season.
