Three Keys to FC Dallas’ Final Two Home Games Before the World Cup
FC Dallas has reached their final two home games before the World Cup and, more importantly, their final two home games before playing nine straight away from Toyota Stadium.
They won’t have things easy, with Real Salt Lake and Vancouver Whitecaps coming to town on Saturday and Wednesday, respectively.
Let’s look at a few focus areas for FCD if they want to pick up maximum points.
1) Feed the Moose
‘Obvious, right? FC Dallas is at its best when the current MLS Golden Boot leader is heavily involved and getting on the scoresheet. Saturday in particular should be a good matchup for Musa. RSL has turned heads with some of their play in 2026, particularly from their younger players, but they are not exactly a defensive powerhouse, and FCD should really look to get Musa involved early and often. Vancouver is obviously a whole other story as possibly the best team in MLS, and Musa will need to be on his top form if the Burn hopes to get what would be a huge win against the Whitecaps (SAVE THE CAPS!).
What will also be key is how the team lines up around Musa. RSL in particular seems like a good option to reintroduce the “Perfect Pairington” from the start, as RSL plays out of a back 3 system that isn’t too different from how FCD has largely played over the past year. Santiago Moreno’s integration into the squad has also continued, but if FCD plans to stick with the flexing 4-4-2 look they debuted against the Red Bulls, can the Burn fit Musa, Farrington, and Moreno into the team together? These are the kinds of questions that Eric Quill will try to answer in these final games before the World Cup break.
2) Defensive Organization
Another obvious one here, but worth noting that Dallas will face two of the best offensive units in MLS. RSL rank 4th in MLS in xG and 8th in goals per match, Vancouver rank 1st in the league in both metrics (Dallas, in case you’re curious, rank 13th and 9th respectively). After a few games of some shaky moments defensively, Dallas really reversed course in the away win against the Red Bulls, holding Michael Bradley’s young side to zero shots on target. The new 4-4-2 defensive block really did its job in cutting down space and attacking angles in New Jersey. It seems likely that Dallas will roll it out again back at home against RSL and, unless disaster strikes on Saturday, against Vancouver as well.
Against these sides, Dallas has to defend as an entire team, the backline just being on their best game isn’t going to be enough when coming up against the likes of Diego Luna, Xavier Gozo, Thomas Muller and Brian White, it has to start from the very front with the forwards. If Dallas can’t maintain their solidity and organization throughout both games, it will struggle to pick up the points they are looking for.
3) Send Off the West Side in Style
Let’s get a little bit sentimental. I know people don’t think much of Toyota Stadium, but the west side of the stadium has been up and basically unchanged for just over two decades. These are the final two FC Dallas games that side will see before it’s demolished for the west side renovations. The team should embrace the changes around the club and really try to put on a show to send off the last remnant of the old Pizza Hut Park days in style.
Calling the 12th and 13th games of the season “must-win” games is not a stretch I’m going to make here, but the team should really go into an “end-of-season” sort of mindset to ensure they pick up good results prior to their long odyssey on the road that won’t see them play another home game in Frisco until early September.
RSL and Vancouver will be a tough task, but FCD has an opportunity to both stake their claim as one of the top sides in the west and say goodbye to part of the club’s history in style.
