Texas Rangers Swept by Cincinnati: What Went Wrong and Can It Be Fixed?
The Rangers returned home from a successful road trip (4-2) and looked to continue winning; that did not happen, though they gave up just 3 runs per game in the series.
The Rangers scored 4 runs for the entire 3-game set.
Fans will woefully remember that the Rangers looked the same in 2025. This is a team that should be able to mash the ball.
The team has 4 starters batting under .200, including one at .059. As a team, they are batting .237.
Meanwhile, their team ERA is 3.60. It is baffling that they are again in this position after picking up Nimmo and releasing Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim—but here they are.
Can It Be Fixed?
The good news is that the Rangers have played 9 games so far.
Not even 1/16 of the season is complete, and they are only one game under .500.
This offense showed some sighs of life on the road, hopefully they can get it figured out in front of the home crowd as well.
“The tough part is that we got swept,” manager Skip Schumaker said to the media after Sunday’s loss.
“That’s the reality. We’ve got to figure out what went wrong. That’s what I always do, even when we win. What did we miss? What are the things I can do better to get guys ready and win more games?”
So, What Now?
Joc Pederson remains the biggest hole in the Rangers lineup, despite having a homer (his first hit) Sunday. Wyatt Langford is right behind him on the struggle bus. Josh Smith and Josh Jung are also struggling.
Players on this team have so much potential, but no production. I would hate to see 2 years in a row with great pitching and bad offense.
Another concern is the errors. The Rangers were a defensively solid team in 2025, but they seem to be making errors on routine plays so far in 2026.

Except for the closer’s role. The Rangers once again have no closer, and it has already shown in the first 9 games of the season.
While it can be fixed, it remains to be seen whether it will be, and whether this team is a contender or a pretender.
