RECAP: Kumar Rocker Makes Season Debut at Home; Rangers Fall to Cincinnati, 2-0
The Texas Rangers took on the Cincinnati Reds for the second of a three-game series on Saturday Night at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
The Reds took game one on Friday night by a score of 5-3, and the Rangers looked to even the score behind Kumar Rocker’s first start of the season.
How It Started
It began rocky, as Kumar gave up 2 runs on 3 hits in the first inning, but he shut down the Reds over the next 4 innings and kept the Rangers in the game.
The challenge was that Rhett Lowder did the same, except he did not give up runs in the first inning; the teams traded zeros for the rest of the game.
“Rocker was excellent. After that first inning with a couple of tough plays behind him, he really settled in,” Schumaker said.
“That fifth inning was a real growing moment for him, no outs with a guy on third, and Seager made an unbelievable play behind him…”
The Rangers’ offense couldn’t get anything going, and the defense was, to put it mildly, bad. Not the whole game, but early on, they failed to make a few plays you would expect them to play.
“We had some pitches in the heart of the plate we just didn’t capitalize on…we didn’t have many guys in scoring position to do anything with tonight,” Skip Schumaker told us after the game.
“They [the Reds] pitched a good game, their defense made some good plays in the outfield…and we just couldn’t get anything together.”
How It Finished
The bullpen held strong; the team just couldn’t score. The team looked uninspired as a whole. Langford struck out 3 times, all looking.
Being shut out for the first time in 2026, and it really is a shame for Rocker, who kept the team in the game through 5 innings.
The Rangers have now lost 3 in a row for the first time this season.
They will try to salvage the series tomorrow afternoon on Easter Sunday.
