Why the Stars Should Make Their Alternates Their Main Jerseys

With the new alternates released towards the end of November, the Dallas Stars should make a notable jersey change soon.
If history and fan reception are any indications, that time is around the corner.
It’s likely only a matter of time before the new sweaters replace the current home jerseys, and we’ll see a road white version soon, too.
Fans Want It
After breaking an NHL record for single-day jersey sales, the demand is clear. After Reebok’s debacle in 2007, rebranding the iconic logo with the boring DALLAS wording on the jersey, this jersey swap was so unpopular that it only lasted for six years. Then, Tom Gaglardi took over as the Stars’ owner, and one of his first acts was to change the design and colors.
It’s not to say we should do away with the current victory green Stars logo. Dallas can have it transition over to a third jersey while the Stars go back to their fantastic roots as the primary in the rotation.
Other Teams Have Gone Back

Most NHL teams go through design or color changes throughout their franchise’s history. Examples of a team switching off from their original designs for something deemed more “modern” are far from few.
A couple of examples of other teams that have recently returned to their old looks after adopting something once considered more modern are the Anaheim Ducks and the Los Angeles Kings. The same way the Stars did 18 years ago. Los Angeles sports the same design and colors that they had back in the 90s. Anaheim went back to the old Duck logo they once ditched in 2006. Back when they cut ties with Disney when they were the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Becoming simply, the Anaheim Ducks.
Another parallel between the Stars and the Ducks is leaving a color behind. Under Tom Gaglardi’s ownership, the Stars don’t sport the gold. Wearing silver to go alongside the green and black (albeit the victory green as opposed to forest green). Anaheim leaves the old purple from their Mighty Ducks era in favor of orange and black only.
The Sales Bump
When, and if the Stars decide to change their primary jerseys to match the alternates (while adding a white jersey to match the third jersey), you can guarantee the Stars will make a lot more money off of it.
Stars fans, and hockey fans alike, have been clamoring for these jerseys to come back for a long time. It’s reached national attention outside of Dallas.
While many Stars fans miss the gold, the design has fans satisfied.
Nobody thinks the silver looks bad, and Dallas fans want to see the Stars win a certain silver trophy 6 months from now.
Hence, the jerseys are selling out in their first weekend on the market.
That kind of sales success means the alternates shouldn’t be going anywhere for a long time.
