Stars Still Winning Despite Several Injuries
No NHL team completes a full season without injuries.
When it rains, it pours for the Dallas Stars.
The Stars are calling up several members of the Texas Stars to replace the numerous injuries suffered this season. Defense is hurting the most with many blueliners down for weeks.
Winning games with many injuries shows the true depth of this team.
They are still the 2nd-best team in the NHL, in contention with the Colorado Avalanche, who are on a 17-game point streak. Replacements are pulling their weight as well, holding the line until players return.
Injured
All of these players have missed time this season due to injury:
- Matt Duchene (Week-to-Week)
- Jamie Benn (Collapsed Lung) (Returned)
- Lian Bichsel (6-8 weeks)
- Adam Erne
- Thomas Harley
- Tyler Seguin (Injured Tuesday @ NYR: Will be evaluated Wednesday)
- Ilya Lyubushkin
- Roope Hintz (Returned)
- Oskar Bäck
- Nils Lundkvist
That’s four defensemen out, making up two lines. Tyler Seguin is currently day-to-day after an injury Tuesday night in New York. We’ll have an update on his condition tomorrow. These injuries are brutal, especially on defense.
More guys are taking on the ice time to recover from injuries. Other players are joining the team from the Texas Stars.
The Texas Dallas Stars
Many players joined the team after a trek from Cedar Park. Kyle Capobianco and Vladislav Kolyachonok both played on the Texas Stars this season before joining the Stars. Both have already scored, helping the Stars maintain their immaculate record so far. No Stars player is without a point, meaning everyone is helping out. Alexander Petrovic is a +7 so far.
He’ll see more ice time with four defensemen out. Justin Hryckowian is a major help to the forward core, scoring 8 points in 26 games this season. Those numbers aren’t bad, considering he’s only 31 games into his NHL career. Hryckowian registered 60 points in 67 games with the Texas Stars last season. Many injuries can negatively impact a team, but the Stars are still rolling.
The Central Division is running the NHL this year.
The Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild join the Stars as the top three teams in the league.
The Avalanche have gone since October 25th without a regulation loss. Coincidentally, that is their only regulation loss of the season. The Stars are still keeping up with the Avalanche despite injuries, with a 19-1-6 record.
Holding a 17-5-5 record with all these injuries is miraculous. Central Division rivalries will heat up, with the Wild 4 points behind the Stars at 15-7-5, 3rd-best in the NHL. Coach Gulutzan will update the press about Tyler Seguin’s condition tomorrow.
Things will get even better than they already are once players start returning.
