Stars Using Lethal Offence to Climb Standings
Few NHL teams can boast about a more potent offence than the Dallas Stars right now.
Depth scoring is an important aspect of any hockey team, with the Stars excelling.
Everyone on the Stars’ lineup is a threat to score, as seen Tuesday night with an 8-3 shellacking of the Edmonton Oilers.
The Stars are scoring at will this season, rocketing up the standings with a plethora of goals. Replacements for missing key players are even finding the score sheet.
This dynamite offence is propelling them into the elite.
Tuesday Night in Edmonton
Mikko Rantanen served a one-game suspension on Tuesday night. Thomas Harley is out week-to-week alongside Matt Duchene. This is no problem for the Stars. Only one game filled the calendar on Tuesday as the Stars rematched with the Oilers. Hockey fans intently watched the only game on the schedule. The Stars put on a show, scoring eight goals in Edmonton. Seven players scored, with Nathan Bastian netting two. Jamie Benn returned to where he scored goal #399, March 8th in Edmonton.
Benn scored #400 in game 1196, waiting nearly nine months since his last tally. This 8-3 victory is even sweeter considering it is the only game on the Tuesday schedule. This goal explosion is only a small part of the tear the offence is on lately.
Lighting the Lamp
Vladislav Kolyachonok, Ilya Lyubushkin, and Kyle Capobianco are the only three goalless players this season, all defensemen. The Stars are the only team in the league with 3 or more 10+ goal scorers with Jason Robertson, Mikko Rantanen, and Wyatt Johnston.
Eight players have 10+ points, meaning depth players are finding the net. No Stars player lacing up the skates is pointless. The top line is performing even better.
Robo
Jason Robertson is on pace for a career year. November 9th is the last time Robertson didn’t score a goal, eight games ago. Robertson scored 11 goals in that span alongside 6 assists. He is playing out of his mind right now. 11 goals over the last seven games will surely retain his Player of the Week status for a second consecutive time. Another game Wednesday night in Seattle will test his streak.
The Stars are the 2nd-best team in the NHL, distantly behind the powerhouse Colorado Avalanche. The Stars’ potent offence keeps them in the 2nd spot for now. They’ve scored the most power-play goals in the NHL by far, with 25. Their rank in shots per game is 26th, putting them in the top 10 in finding the net with premium shots. – just imagine if they can shoot more.
Being a dangerous team is helping them in the standings.
Several more months of hockey are ahead, with plenty of opportunities to showcase their offensive talent.
