Texas Rangers Shopping Jonah Heim and Adolis Garcia
Two big pieces of the 2023 World Series run have fallen out of the grace of the team, and they are looking to move on from the pair of them.
If the team cannot work a trade for them, they will likely be non-tendered.
The Rangers will be looking to cut payroll, so both of these players can be moved.
Jonah Heim
Heim was worth 3.1 WAR in 2023 with a slashline of .258/.317/.468 with 18 home runs and 95 RBIs, which earned him an All-Star nod. He has not been the same player since, as he has accumulated only half that WAR over the past two years.
His batting average has dropped too, to .220 and .213, with 13 and 11 home runs in those years. His defense has also taken a bit of a hit. The team signed Kyle Higashioka last off-season, and he played better than Heim did and started to get more playing time than Heim did.
Heim is owed $6 million, so teams that would need catching help could be interested in bringing Heim in.
Adolis Garcia
Garcia was the 2023 ALCS MVP for the Rangers and hit the walk-off home run in game one of the World Series. He has yet to find that success since then. He has only hit 44 home runs in the last two years compared to the 39 home runs that he hit in 2023.
His batting average in 2023 was .245 compared to the past couple of years, where he couldn’t break a .230 batting average.
He still plays a good game, defense was up for the Gold Glove this year, and he plays good defense year in and year out.
Garcia will be owed $12 million next year, so they will more than likely move on from him. They also have a number of options that can take over that corner spot, including Alejandro Osuna, Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran, and Michael Helman to join Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter in the outfield.
