LAMB OR RICE: Who Do You Want?
Nearly a month away from American Thanksgiving, the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs offered a full plate of CeeDee Lamb and Rashee Rice, respectively.
Both returned to the field after extended absences, albeit for different reasons, delivering big-time performances for their respective squads.
Let’s break down how each No. 1 wideout played and compare who ultimately had the better showing.
DALLAS COWBOYS: CEEDEE LAMB
Lamb was explosive. Logging five receptions on eight targets for 110 yards and one touchdown, it was all about quality over quantity for the Oklahoma University product. Lamb appeared to recover the top spot on the wide receiver depth chart in his first game back since suffering an ankle injury that kept him out for three weeks.
George Pickens, who stepped up in Lamb’s absence, saw six targets after being targeted 11 times in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. Pickens also did not record a touchdown for the first time since Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Meanwhile, Kansas City saw one of its premier receivers step on the field and become an immediate factor.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS: RASHEE RICE
Rice had one of the best games in his career. He posted seven catches on 10 targets for 42 yards and two touchdowns against the Oakland Raiders, who had no answer for Rice and Patrick Mahomes.
For his part, Mahomes was just as lethal. The Super Bowl MVP completed 26 of 35 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns. Almost half of Kansas City’s points came from a Mahomes-Rice connection.
Fellow Kansas City wideouts Hollywood Brown and Xavier Worthy were not as effective as Rice, who took up the majority of the target share. Neither Brown nor Worthy registered more than three targets or posted at least 50 receiving yards. The game seemed to mark one thing for certain: Rice is the Chiefs’ bona fide No. 1 WR option.
Who Played Better?
It depends on how you look at it.
Both teams won easily, but Rice was certainly targeted more. However, Lamb didn’t miss a beat. He posted his third 100+ yard game, scored his first touchdown of the season, and he was just two shy of double-digit targets, which is something Lamb has been in every game he’s played in.
Lamb will be Dak Prescott’s primary receiver, strengthening an offense that was already strong without Lamb into a powerhouse with weapons across the line of scrimmage.
