Cowboys Search for Options Following Star WR Injury
After posting over 251 yards in the air through Sunday’s matchup with the Chicago Bears, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves without a key receiver for possibly the next one to four weeks.
CeeDee Lamb, one of the highest-paid and most dominant wideouts in the NFL, went down with an apparent ankle injury in the first quarter.
The injury immediately affected the Cowboys, who were unable to move the ball down the field consistently against the Bears and lost 31-14, dropping their record to 1-2 on the season.
Lamb’s absence creates an opportunity for others to step up.
The remaining three quarters against Chicago hinted at the look of the Dallas offense without Lamb, led by tight end Jake Ferguson and wide receivers George Pickens and Jalen Tolbert.
Ferguson, a 2022 draft pick, collected double-digit targets for the second consecutive week, bringing in 13 receptions on 14 targets for 82 yards. Pickens becomes a highly valued red-zone option following the absence of Lamb. He registered the team’s sole receiving touchdown on Sunday. Tolbert recorded six targets and secured half of them for 24 yards.
Should the Cowboys be without Lamb for an extended period of time, quarterback Dak Prescott has other options to throw to, including running back Javonte Williams, who seems to be the consistent bright spot on this Dallas offense.
Fantasy Outlook
If Ferguson is available, now is a great time to claim him on waivers or through free agency. Pickens, projected for 14.5 points in Week 4 against Green Bay, is coming off two straight contests where he was targeted nine times and collected 17.8 points in both games.
Williams is valuable. Many experts rank him as a top-16 RB, a sign for fantasy owners to slot him as their RB1 or RB2.
