What the Wings Need to Do in the Second Half

The Dallas Wings entered the All-Star break with a record of 6-17.
At one point in the first half, the Wings had a stretch where they went 1-11.
While the Wings have faced numerous injuries to key players like Maddy Siegrist, Tyasha Harris, DiJonai Carrington, and Arike Ogunbowale, the emergence of rookies Paige Buekers, JJ Quinery, and Aziaha James has been a beacon of hope; these young talents have shown great potential and promise for the team’s future.
For the Wings to find success in the second half of the 2025 WNBA season, they’ll need a multi-pronged approach that addresses both immediate execution and long-term development.
Arike Ogunbowale Needs to Play Better

Ogunbowale missed some time with injuries, but she is having a down season, averaging just 15.7 points per game, while shooting 34% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc, all career lows.
She needs to do a better job scoring if the Wings want to play well in the second half. Look for Ogunbowale to be aggressive in the second half.
Get Better in Close Games
Dallas has lost a lot of close games this season. They need to improve in late-game situations. The Wings need to simplify late-game offensive sets. Limit isolations—use movement to get shooters better looks.
Also, there is a need for better communication on defense.
Defense
The Wings’ defense has been subpar this season; they rank 12th in defense rating (110.2) and 11th in points against (86.3), which will not be enough. The Wings have too many blown coverages and poor rotations.
In the future, Dallas needs to simplify coverages: move to more drop schemes or switch selectively. Also, they need to have defensive accountability and play hard.
Final Thoughts
If the Wings can get better play from Ogunbowale, play better defense, and execute better in close games, they could turn the season around.
If they can get healthy, they have the talent to play good basketball.
It is up to the coaching staff and the players to get the job done.
