The Silver Boot Finale
The Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros battled it out for one more series for the Silver Boot.
The teams were tied at five games apiece before Texas took game 1 Monday night.
The Rangers are now sitting at 54-59 after Monday, just 5 games behind the Mariners for first place and 3.5 behind the Astros for 2nd.
This series with the Astros could be a deciding series for the American League West.
If you watched Monday night’s game, you could tell it was a playoff atmosphere. Both teams realize what winning the season series would mean.
Last year, the season series decided the AL West champions. The Rangers need only to win one of the last two games to win the series.
Tonight’s game 3 is the deciding game. The whole season series is decided by one game.
The Rangers and Astros have had amazing pitching in this series. If it weren’t for one bad pitch to Yordon Alvarez on Tuesday night, the game would have gone to extra innings again.
Jose Urena gets the start in this crucial winner-take the series and the Silver Boot. The Rangers and Astros have both been bipolar this season, and there are enough games remaining that anything could happen.
The Mariners are hanging on to the top spot, but they don’t look very serious about it. The Astros have a long history of winning the West.
The Rangers are out to prove they were not a one-hit wonder in 2023.
If Monday looked like a turning point, Tuesday looked almost like the same old 2024 Rangers.
A team that can’t win back-to-back games, a team that can’t hit, a team that looks tired.
If the Rangers don’t show up on Wednesday, the rest of the season may be a moot point. You have to win these games, especially as difficult as their August will be.
I hate to say this is a must-win in August, but it is.
The Rangers have been flirting with disaster the entire season, and if they lose this series, it may finally be the end of their playoff hopes.
