Jacy Sheldon Shining Like an All-Star

The All-Star Game has not seen three rookies join the floor since 2011.
This season featured an opportunity to change that.

Jacy Sheldon, the fifth overall selection, is making the most of her opportunities in Dallas during a tough year in franchise history.

Sheldon, an impressive guard out of Ohio State Women’s Basketball, was labeled the “second-best guard behind [Caitlin Clark]” eligible for the 2024 WNBA Draft, according to Bleacher Report. She has not been disappointed on the court.

Initially plugged in due to a wave of injuries, Sheldon quickly found her footing in Dallas (6-19). She appeared in 6 games in May, 12 in June, and 7 in July. Each month saw her minutes grow and her offensive rating increase. In June, Sheldon produced an outstanding five-game stretch performance in the midst of Dallas’ struggles.

Sheldon ranks high among rookie categories. She is 3rd in FG% (42.5%) ahead of All-Stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

The Ohio State graduate is 3rd in 3PT% behind Kate Martin of the Las Vegas Aces and Leonie Fiebich of the New York Liberty.

Based on the current trajectory of the season, the Wings are in contention to make a top-three selection.

Along with Carla Leite, drafted ninth overall at this year’s draft, the Wings have a chance to build an incredible foundation.
