One run and five hits—something Rangers fans are tired of hearing—was once again the story of the game as Texas fell 3-1 to the Detroit Tigers.

“Bats were just quiet, hard to explain why, but they were quiet,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said after the game.

“We really didn’t threaten much. We were lucky to get one run, to be honest, so it’s frustrating.”

The Tigers landed the game’s first blow in the second inning when Zach McKinstry hooked a two-run home run into the right field corner off Dane Dunning to make it 2-0 Detroit. Three innings later, Dunning would surrender another home run, this time off the bat of Riley Greene, to make it 3-0 Tigers.

Dunning’s night would end after five innings as he gave up three runs on four hits while striking out four and walking two. The Rangers bullpen was also solid, and Jesus Tinoco, Jacob Latz, and Grant Anderson combined to throw four scoreless innings.

However, they were the latest Rangers pitchers to suffer from a lack of run support from a suffocating offense.

Ezequiel Duran was gifted an RBI single in the 9th after a pop-up fell in between Tigers shortstop Zach McKinstry and center fielder Riley Greene, scoring the Rangers’ lone run of the night. However, Texas has scored just two runs over the first two games of the series.

You’d have to figure out something to give for a Rangers offense that was so successful last season, but that is not the case right now.

They say that hitting is contagious, but right now, it feels like all that’s flowing through the Texas lineup is a cold.

“When you get hits and get things going, it raises the energy in the dugout and the stadium, and when you don’t hit, you always look flat, and so yeah, it can get a little contagious, but when things get going it seems like things turn around real fast, but we just couldn’t turn it around, could hardly get anyone on base,” Bochy said.
