Long-time Dallas Stars fans remember all too well the many times the team finished a season without a playoff appearance.

Those days are past, and the glory days are upon us now, with the Stars becoming the first team in the Western Conference to clinch a playoff spot.

Expectations of this team elevated this season, with a current 47-19-9 record and 103 points.

They are now one point behind the leading New York Rangers with equal games played.

The final stretch of the season is among us, with the Stars looking for more in the success department.

Division Win

The Central Division became a tight 3-way race all season long between the Stars, Jets, and Avalanche. The Stars are slowly pulling ahead in this close race. The Jets held the lead over the Stars about a month ago when the struggles hit. This 7-point lead the Stars have now is thanks to a franchise-tying record for most consecutive wins with 7.

The Avalanche have one game in hand with a 3-point difference. Winning the division when it’s been tight all season long is a short-term victory for the Stars. The Stars, Avalanche, and Jets all play each other in one more game, so this race isn’t over yet.

Conference Win

Holding home-ice advantage is crucial in the playoffs. Establishing home ice in Games 1 & 2 of a playoff series is important for setting the tone for the remainder of the games. Playing a potential Game 7 at home is also helpful if the series goes that far.

The Stars will have a home-ice advantage for the entirety of the Western Conference playoffs if they win it outright. NHL teams find success in both the regular season and playoffs, so winning the Western Conference regular season shows how much damage this team is capable of.

Playoff Success

Only a few games remain in the regular season. The slate is wiped clean as soon as that 82nd game of the season concludes. Throw everything you know away once the playoffs begin because it all starts over. The Stars are looking for a deeper playoff run than where they finished last season in the Western Conference Final.

The Vegas Golden Knights proved too much of a juggernaut in last year’s playoffs. Being that unstoppable force is exactly what the Stars hope. This team is capable of winning the Stanley Cup, so that’s what they are shooting for as their final goal.

This team is trying to do what no Stars team has done in 25 years. This year is looking promising so far, with a hopeful playoff run coming up.
The Stars are looking right for that deep run into the playoffs. Expectations are high, but this is the team with high potential to take it all the way.
