It may be too early for an accurate opening day lineup projection, but that doesn’t stop us here at the Ranger Report from trying.

Who will be in the lineup? What order will they bat? How will they do?

No one knows, but we are going to guess. Enjoy and don’t take it too seriously.

Opening Day Starter:

This could go several ways. The rotation (as it stands today) includes Nathan Eovaldi, Dane Dunning, Jon Gray, Andrew Heaney and Cody Bradford. That could obviously change before game 1 of the season.

The obvious choice would be Eovaldi, the 2023 All-Star and post-season hero would be a good choice for the job.

He showed he is a work horse on the mound, and he was a great addition to the staff that came through when the Rangers needed him most.

Jon Gray is in his third year with the club and would also be a good choice, but once again he is not who I am going to go with.

I happen to believe that the opening day starter slot belongs to one Dane Dunning. Dunning was the Rangers pitcher of the year in 2023.

After the Jacob deGrom injury, he was nothing short of brilliant the remainder of the season. He earned the honor of being the opening day starter in my opinion and I think he should get the nod.

The Opening Day Lineup

Here is my projected batting order for the World Champion Texas Rangers for game 1.

1 – Marcus Semien – 2nd base. No need to take Marcus out of the top spot. He will most likely stay there all season.

2 – Evan Carter – LF. I think for opening day Carter will bat second but I don’t think he will stay there once Corey Seager is healthy again.

3 – Nathanel Lowe – 1B. Lowe hit there for most of the season in 2023 and I don’t see a reason why he won’t start there in 2024.

4 – Adolis Garcia – RF. Cleanup. Enough said.

5 – Josh Jung – 3B. The second year third-baseman should be hitting 5 in the lineup unless his injury is worse than we were led to believe.

6 – Jonah Heim – C. Heim, the switch hitting catcher, will bat 6th in my opinion.

7 – Justin Foscue – DH. I am going out on a limb here but I think Foscue makes the team out of Spring training and gets the nod for opening day.

8 – Ezequiel Duran – SS. Duran did a great job when Seager was injured in 2023 and I think he is the clear choice to start at SS in 2024.

9 – Leody Tavares – CF. Taveras can get on base and has a ton of speed. He will be back in the 9 spot.

I am 100% sure that my prediction for the opening day lineup will be wrong, but it is always fun to guess at this time of year. Let me know if you agree or disagree!
