The Mavericks made history becoming the first NBA team to go on a 30-0 run against the OKC Thunder over the weekend. The previous record was a 29-0 run by Cleveland against Milwaukee on Dec. 6th, 2009.

Unfortunately, Dallas did not come out of this game with a win; mostly in part to missing their Nos. 2 and 3 scorers (Irving and Hardaway Jr.). A hole was dug early, but it was the Thunder who rallied late – their 6-0 run was sparked by an ATO Jalen Williams dunk to stop the bleeding.

There were some positive takeaways from this game, however. You don’t just go on a 30-0 run by accident, you have to be doing something right. The team showed defensive resilience, while shots began to fall (better quality of shots goes a long way).

Dereck Lively II set new career-highs in minutes (39), points (20), rebounds (16), blocks (7), made field goals (9), and free throw attempts (5) in the Mav’s loss against Oklahoma City.

Here are a list of players that put up at least 20 pts, 15 rebs, and 5 blocks while also shooting 100% from the field in a single game:

  • ’00 Dikembe Mutombo (Age 33)
  • ’20 Rudy Gobert (Age 27)
  • Dereck Lively II Saturday against OKC (Age 19)

You can’t overstate how key Dereck Lively II’s contributions have been up to this point. We were even blessed with a posterizer over Chet Holmgren. Luka Doncic continued his high praise, describing Lively II’s impact and potential “amazing” and says “it’s going to be scary hours for him throughout his career”.

Luka tied Larry Bird for 9th on the NBA’s all-time triple-double list. Maybe more importantly, Doncic welcomed his newborn daugher Gabriela on Thursday. Her name was written on the outside of each of his shoes for this game.

Irving, Hardaway Jr., and Exum all participated in practice on Monday. Grant Williams (knee soreness) and Maxi Kleber (small toe dislocation) didn’t practice.

Dallas hosts Utah on Wednesday, Dec. 6th.
