Good hockey teams expect long winning streaks throughout the season. Great hockey teams experience them several times throughout the year. The 11-3-1 Dallas Stars are still in this season’s infancy but are embarking upon their longest winning streak yet. The Stars are already stringing together several three-game win streaks. A perfect road trip coupled with a win on the return have them atop the division standings. They are hanging in there with the big teams and are now one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. Lots of great teams stand in their way, giving the Stars two of their three losses. It’s still a long season to go but this one seems different.
An 11-3-1 start is nothing to look down on. The Stars dominated on their latest road trip while taking six out of six points, outscoring opponents 16-7 over three games. Any questions about their assets before the season started are already out the window. Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski are atop the team’s point scorers with 14 in 15 games. Four players have six or more points with the young phenom Wyatt Johnston leading the team with seven goals. This team is finding ways to win and are currently on a four-game win streak. This is their third 3-game or more win streak. Their hot start can continue with the amount of players contributing.
Only three regulation losses in 15 games is a hot start. The Stars are one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year. Two of their losses are from the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks. The Bruins and Canucks are up there in the standings. Their other loss from the Maple Leafs accounts for the third. Their three losses are coming from teams with a winning record. There are good and bad things that come from this. The Stars are beating teams they should but are also losing to teams they can see in the playoffs. The Stars may see the Canucks, Bruins, or even the Maple Leafs in the playoffs.
Things are different this year and the standings and stats show it. Eight players have 10 or more points and we are only 15 games in this season. Everyone is contributing meaning depth scoring is there. The top guys are contributing as well with the big three of Robertson, Hintz, and Pavelski having no less than five goals and 13 points each. It’s going on 25 years since the Stars won the Stanley Cup when they get their next chance. The Stars have the right team to pull a championship win off.
