The 2023 World Series heads to Arizona with the teams tied 1-1. The series is now a best of 5 after the first 2 games.
Game 3 is a turning point in a series like the current World Series, as the winner of game 3 has a 69% chance of taking the series.
The Texas Rangers had a brilliant come from behind win in game 1 but were shut down by Merrill Kelly in game 2.
“He stayed out of the middle,” said Marcus Semien, who went 1-for-4 in the loss according to MLB.com. “He’s a guy who can do a lot of things with the baseball — cut it, sink it, changeup. His fastball is good. You have to respect it. We tried to do our best, get good pitches to hit, but he didn’t give us any. They had a good night tonight. So you learn from it. I’m sure we’ll see him again and come back better next time.”
Mad Max Scherzer will take the hill for the Texas club in game 3, and he will need to be at his best. Arizona has shown that they are not afraid to get on the bases and run.
Both game 1 and game 2 the Diamondbacks were perfect stealing the bases, and it seemed like all of their walks came in to score. The Rangers just couldn’t stop the D’backs for game 2.
Texas has Max Scherzer ready to go for game 3, and it will be his third start of the postseason. He will need to keep the pesky Diamondbacks off the bases.
Another player who needs to come through in a big way is Marcus Semien. He has been an automatic out in the first two games.
If the Rangers are going to finally win a World Series, they will need him to step up in a big way.
The bullpen has to continue to keep runners off the board (Unlike Martin Perez in game 2). The regulars need to continue to shine.
A championship for the Rangers in in reach. Arizona is not going to make it easy, nor should they.
You want to beat the best to be considered the best, and Arizona is peaking at the right time.
