The biggest strength of the Dallas Stars is their young core. Led by Miro Heiskanen, Roope Hintz, Jason Roberson and Jake Oettinger. Last year we saw Wyatt Johnston make a big splash in his rookie season. 2024 has another Stars’ rookie looking to make some noise this season; Logan Stankoven.

Play style

Stankoven is known for playing the game hard. At 5’8″ he’s not going to be one of the biggest guys on the ice. That isn’t going to stop him from playing physical, getting into that goalies crease, for echecking, and playing without intimidation. Stankoven will develop more man strength into his early and mid 20s, but the kid right now is tougher than he looks.

Even just two years ago, Stankoven faces adversity simply because of his size. He wasn’t afraid back then. He’s got that dog in him to ride up to the challenge of NHL hockey, and is up for the challenge of playing top hockey in the world. When it’s time to put on that Dallas jersey.

Shredding the juniors

Simply put, Stankoven dominated the WHL and CHL playing with the Kamloops Blazers. One of the best in his time, Stanky torched the juniors from hat tricks to winning team, and individual awards in the juniors. Stars’ scouts have spoke highly of Stankoven. Even if he starts out with the AHL”s Texas Stars like Jason Roberson once did.

“He’ll be great,” one scout said. “I love his game, but he’s not there this season. He’s got the tools, the offensive awareness, and he plays well defensively enough for a coach to trust him. But there is gonna be a learning curve. He could break it after a few games, might take a year, but once he does he’ll be ready.”

During his time in the juniors, Stankoven also won the gold medal with team Canada three times. Winning back to back in 2022, and 2023. As well as winning gold in the U18 games in 2021. You could say he was his own dynasty as a gold medal champio

The prospect games

If the prospect games are of any indication, Stankoven is going to do just fine when he gets going with the Stars. During the prospect tournament vs the Columbus Blue Jackets, Stankoven had a goal and an assist. Of course those games aren’t regular season NHL matches, but Stankoven delivered what was expected of him. And that was additional scoring with those two points.

Thus far Stankoven had checked every box in what’s been expected of him. That’s good reason for excitement for the team, and Stars fans.
