This is the week that some Major League and Minor League rosters will change.
The Texas Rangers are linked to just about everyone that could be available.
Even though the team has gone 7-3 since the All-Star Break, Their bullpen has disappointed them on multiple occasions. If they want to make a serious run, they need help.
Aroldis Chapman had his first slip-up on Monday against the second-place Astros at a time when the Rangers were counting on him. With a three-run lead in the seventh, he needs to hold that.
Let’s look at who is out there in the rumor mill and who I think is a possibility.
Shohei Ohtani
No. That’s all. He is not coming to Texas at the trade deadline. This is my lock.
The Rangers do not want to pay what the Angles will require in prospects for a rental. I’m all for signing him in the off-season but do not mortgage the farm for 2 months of Ohtani.
Lance Lynn
The Rangers have been showing interest in Lance Lynn returning to the fold.
The White Sox may be willing to listen, and I don’t think it will take a massive haul to bring him back.
Blake Snell
If the Padres decide to trade Snell, the Rangers should kick the tires on him.
He would be a great addition and help sure up the pitching on this team.
Marcus Stroman
The Rangers should definitely look into him if the Cubs are offering, and it could be a good pickup for this team.
I’m not going to list all the other options.
Here are some players that the Rangers may trade to make this happen:
- Leody Tavares
- Justin Foscue
- Luis Angel Acuna
- Dustin Harris
- Aaron Zavala
- Thomas Saggese
- Josh Smith
In my opinion, they will not trade Evan Carter or Owen White unless it is unavoidable.
