The Texas Rangers decided to offer outfielder Robbie Grossman a contract. It has worked out well for them so far.
Through 31 plate appearances Grossman is slashing .375/.484/.708/1.192 with a couple of homers. He is solidifying himself as the left fielder.
Now he will platoon with Brad Miller and also Bubba Thompson will get some time there when Leody Taveras returns.
The Rangers usually get a player or two that were overlooked by other teams. Grossman did not have a great 2022.
He only batted .217 in 2022 with just 5 homers. So he is dur for a comeback year.
Grossman had a great year in 2022, batting .239 with 23 homers with the Tigers. The Rangers are hoping he returns to that form
Left field was the biggest question mark besides the bullpen coming into the season, and that may be answered now. If Grossman can play anywhere like he is in spring training, the Rangers got yet another steal.
If he regresses, the Rangers have other options. Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran and others could hold down left field. I think Grossman has done enough to convince everyone he is right for the job.
With three weeks left in spring training, the Rangers are starting to look like the team we were hoping they were. Good starting pitching, good offense and a decent bullpen. They have a chance to really win some games and compete for a wild card spot.
While I’m not ready to declare them AL West champions yet, they are moving in the correct direction. Having Jacob deGrom certainly helps.
Grossman is an upgrade to what the team had in 2022, and I look forward to seeing him perform in 2023 and help this team win.
The Rangers are almost ready, and so are the fans, Can’t wait for spring training to end and the 2023 season to begin!
