Can we expect some magic from the Dallas Cowboys this season?
The Texas-based team is coming to this year from a standard 2022 season, albeit followed by an unfruitful playoff.
However, the Dallas Cowboys believe that during this off-season, they can finally get over the hump — and it all begins with the upcoming draft.
Using odds information provided by Betting TX, we’ve constructed this Cowboys 2023 Draft Betting Guide to find all the information you need to make sound bets.
What is NFL Draft Betting?
The NFL Draft, aka the National Football League Draft, is an annual event that allows each team to make potentially game-changing alterations to its roster. The three rounds of the draft take place over a three-day period each spring. The drafting sequence positions teams in reverse order, pertaining to their previous year’s record. Consequently, the Super Bowl winner adopts the last position, while the last-placed team goes first.
From these positions, they can either pick a new player and/or trade their position in the pecking order with another team. Then they may pick a player from their new position — or any combination of the above actions. This gives teams two actions per round.
Naturally, the NFL Draft provides a great opportunity for sportsbooks and bettors across the USA because of the massive amount of speculation associated with the draft. It is a high-value market for trend bets and futures. Betting on the NFL Draft involves predicting the exact draft order or forecasting which team a given player transfers to. You can also bet on more general options, such as the total number of linebackers taken in Round One or over/under for a player’s draft position.
What Type of Players Do the Dallas Cowboys Need?
Dallas Cowboys receive six picks in the 2023 National Football League Draft. The team will pick once in every round except for the sixth round, where they have no pick. Dallas’s six-round pick moved to the Las Vegas Raiders at the deadline.
Its selections in the 2023 Draft are: Round 1, Pick 26, Round 2, Pick 58, Round 3, Pick 90, Round 4, Pick 127, Round 5, Pick 159, and Round 7, Pick 223. The Dallas Cowboys’ pick in the 2013 NFL Draft will come at number 26 overall, meaning that their selection is not going to be within the grasp of any of the top prospects this year unless they trade up.
Last year, the team chose offensive lineman Tyler Smith with its 24th pick. Before Smith, the team picked Micah Parsons 12th overall in the National Football League Draft. The Dallas Cowboys saw sporting success from their first-round picks and are hoping to add another great starter in 2023.
The Cowboys ended the previous season, failing to reach the National Football Conference (NFC) Championship or Super Bowl. This means it needs to bring in a few quality players for a successful 2023 season. While it is arguable that they underperformed heavily in contrast to their overall roster, talent still needs to be replenished. Below are two positions that the Cowboys need to focus on in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Offensive Line

The Cowboys have had great success drafting offensive linemen, especially in the first round. They’ve picked Tyron, Smith, Travis Frederick, and Zack Martin since 2011. With Martin at 32 and Smith struggling with injuries over the last few seasons, Dallas may choose new blood to revitalize that position.
The team can also decide to reinforce their line and take one with the number 26 pick. O’Cyrus Torrence, out of Florida, can replace Connor McGovern if he leaves the team freely. Even if they don’t choose this path in the first round, they’ll almost surely take at least one with their six picks.
Wide Receivers
The Cowboys tried replacing Amari Cooper’s production with T.Y. Hilton, James Washington, Noah Brown, and Jalen Tolbert in 2022. That year, the team’s wide receivers combined 52 catches on 688 yards.
Among the bunch, Noah was the most efficient wide receiver, with 555 yards in that season. Tolbert and Washington were a big disappointment for the team, while Hilton was a late addition to the team’s roster for a playoff run.
In the 2023 season, the Dallas Cowboys need to add playmakers for Prescott. They can decide to take one in the first round. Players like Josh Downs, Rashee Rice, or Zay Flowers can help the team on offense.
