On Friday afternoon, the Dallas Wings will be acquiring Diamond DeShields from the Phoenix Mercury. The remaining details of the trade have been confirmed and this is a four-team deal that will send Wings free agent Point Guard Marina Mabery to the Chicago Sky.
A four-way trade involving the New York Liberty, Chicago Sky, Phoenix Mercury and Dallas Wings will send:

Diamond is the brother of former Texas Rangers outfielder Delino Deshields who played for the Rangers from 2015-2019. Diamond Deshields averaged 13.1 points with 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game last season with the Phoenix Mercury.
More than likely Deshields will slide into the Wings’ starting point guard position and should be able to fill the void that Marina Mabery could potentially be leaving. Looking at the stats, DeShields actually matches Mabery’s stats almost identically with both of them averaging 13 points and 3 rebounds per contest.
With Marina Mabery remaining unsigned it’s very nice to see the Wings address the point guard position and acquiring someone like DeShields will be a much-needed breath of fresh air.
DeShields will be the second newest piece of the Wings’ starting lineup as veteran Natasha Howard will be sliding in at the small forward position.
With the deal being confirmed on Saturday afternoon we now know that the Wings will be receiving the 5th overall pick in the 2023 draft, Chicago’s 2024 first-round pick, and the rights to swap 2025 first-round picks with Chicago. The Wings now have the 3rd and 5th overall selections in the 2023 WNBA draft.
This was the second multi-team trade that the Wings have made this offseason as they have been revamping their roster for the 2023 season.
