The Dallas Wings 73-58 loss to the Connecticut Sun in the WNBA playoffs ended the Wings’ most successful season in Dallas Wings history. Although the ending was nothing short of disappointing, The Wings saw several promising signs.

The Good

Vickie Johnson progression – Going into the season, I think many fans and media were skeptical of coach VJ. I think that she has proved herself as a good head coach for now. Sure, she had her moments but the things she was able to accomplish with players in and out of the lineup were certainly impressive.

Winning in the playoffs – After getting a taste of the playoffs in 2021, the goal for this young Dallas Wings team was to win in the playoffs. They were only about to win just one playoff game but they did capture a playoff win. Not to mention that now they have three additional games of playoff experience under their belt.

Ready to take the next step – This season, the Wings had a group of young and inexperienced players. Now, those players are once again ready to take that next step toward greatness. We saw players like Teaira McCowan, Awak Kuier and Ty Harris all make significant steps of improvement this season.

The Question Marks

Who’s gonna be back next season – Unfortunately sports teams rarely have the same roster from one season to the next. With rumors swirling around several Wings players including Kayla Thornton, Allisha Gray, and Isabelle Harrison, the Wings roster coming into next season is definitely a bit of a question mark.

Can Arike be the star while still having teammates involved? – When Arike Ogunbowale went down with an injury late in the season, the Wings’ offense had to make adjustments. Through those opportunities, more players were able to get involved and the team actually had success. The question that remains is can Arike still score at a high rate while keeping her teammates involved?

At the end of the day, the Wings season this year should be considered a success. However, only one team goes home a winner, and that wasn’t Dallas. There is no doubt that Greg Bibb and the front office will have this roster ready to go into the 2023 season as a winner!!!
