Not every greatest game is included in this list but it will provide happy memories for Stars fans.
2020 Round 2 Game 7 @ Avalanche
2020 saw one of the greatest playoff runs in team history but it ended just a little short. Two powerhouse teams faced off in a winner-take-all Game 7 in the Edmonton Bubble. This game was a wild affair with multiple lead changes. It was 1-0 Stars then 2-1 Avalanche. The Stars tied the game late in the 3rd period 3-3 but Vladislav Namestnikov of the Avalanche appeared to score the series-winner with 3:40 remaining.
Stars fans wanted to crawl up into fetal position on that one. Joel Kiviranta became the savior 10 seconds later with the tying goal. Kiviranta cemented himself in the lore of Stars history with the overtime-winner and hat trick. This game is important because the Stars made it to the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2008 on a crazy 5-4 game.
2020 Western Conference Final Game 5 @ Las Vegas
2020 was an important year in the history of the Stars. Their Stanley Cup Final run was something this fanbase needed. Game 5 against the Vegas Golden Knights was one that is replayed over and over again with Stars fans. The Golden Knights made the score 2-0 while in the 3rd period but the Stars stormed back to force overtime. Denis Gurianov teed one up on the powerplay in overtime to send the Stars to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2000.
1999 Stanley Cup Final Game 6 @ Buffalo
This is the game that every Stars fan considers the ultimate one. The Dallas Stars became Stanley Cup Champions in the wee hours of a June 20th Buffalo morning on a game that started on the previous day. Craig Ludwig got an assist in the final game of his career. This game is most remembered by Stars fans as the one that won it all. It took 3 overtime periods before Brett Hull’s controversial goal gave Dallas their first and only Stanley Cup to date.
Many great moments occurred in this franchise. The entire Stanley Cup run in 1999 had several of these great games including another Game 7 against the Avalanche. There will be more of these games in the future. It’s fun to reminisce until hockey starts back up in October.
