Don’t look now, but the Texas Rangers are still a bad team. if you are on Twitter, and who isn’t, you fall into one of two categories: minor league lovers and major league haters.
The Rangers have arguably a top 5 farm system in all of baseball. Household names like Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker, Cole Winn, Josh Jung and others are impressing or expected to impress.
Their most consistent minor league team has been the High A Hickory Crawdads. A good amount of the players on the ‘Dads were part of a Wood Ducks team that played for the championship in Low A in 2021.
The Rangers are also starting to make changes at the major league level. Don’t look now, but Bubba Thompson, Cole Ragans, Glenn Otto, Elier Hernandez, Mebryis Viloria, Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran and Leody Tavares all started in the minors in 2022.
The remainder of the 2022 season is going to be the young players learning how to win as a squad. The Rangers want to see what they have l, and there are more coming.
Expect to see Cole Winn in Arlington, as well as Josh Jung with the big club before 2022 is over. Jung is almost ready to play, and Winn is rule 5 eligible so the Rangers need to add him to the roster or lose him.
This team will not win more than 75 games. All the experts predicted this at the beginning of the season. That would be a 15 game improvement form 2021. The team will also know more about who will be a part of the squad going forward.
Even though the recode does not show it, I will end up calling 2022 a successful season because I think they are accomplishing finding pieces for the next few seasons. Maybe I’m crazy, but I am looking forward to watching the remainder of the games and preparing for the winning to come.
