The John Klingberg era in Dallas is over. His tenure lasting from the 2014-2015 season comes to an end. The Anaheim Ducks signed him to a 1-year deal. This offseason is in full swing now as even more rumors involve the Dallas Stars. It appears that Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks is on the trade block. The Stars could be a destination. These rumors already came and gone with Matthew Tkachuk who is now in Florida. Jake Oettinger and Jason Robertson still need contracts. This offseason is getting interesting.
Klingberg to Anaheim
Klingberg officially signed a 1-year, $7 million deal with the Ducks. His 8 season tenure in Dallas is over. He leaves with 71 goals and 374 points. The rumors were swirling all season long and now they come to fruition. The Stars should have a tribute for him when the Ducks visit Dallas on December 1st.
Patrick Kane to Dallas?
Stars fans’ eyes might have already started bleeding when they saw this news. Patrick Kane is a disliked player by Stars fans. The Blackhawks are far beyond their dynasty years of 3 Stanley Cups from 2010-2015. One of their biggest assets to sell is rumored to be on the trade block with Dallas as a prime destination. The money problem is the only thing stopping this from happening. The Stars still need to sign Robertson and Oettinger. This could be another Corey Perry situation where a once hated player becomes a fan favorite. Kane’s career as a Star-killer can come to an end if he dawns the #88 in Victory Green.
What is going on with the Oettinger/Robertson Front?
Each passing day gets more worrisome as the two most impactful players from last season are still RFAs. Robertson and Oettinger are now several weeks into Free Agency with still no word yet on a contract. Now you have to worry about them receiving an Offer Sheet from another team and Dallas losing them. These players are the future of this franchise and there is the money problem.
Money Problems
The Stars have north of $11 million left to spend. They could be tweaking out the details with their two unsigned Free Agents but that deal needs to get done. Trading for Patrick Kane makes that situation even more complicated. Kane has 1 year left on his $10.5 million contract so they would have to eat a lot of that up in retained cap.
The next will be eventful. Free Agency has not gone according to plan. Signing Oettinger and Robertson is a must and now rumors are swirling around Kane. Get ready for the next week.
