This Utah series has been filled with interesting story lines; most notably, Luka’s injury status and the exceptional play of Jalen Brunson as the number one option. Who would’ve imagined a bigger story line than the biggest Mavs fan there is, Rudy Gobert’s bee.

Gobert posted a picture with a swollen face as a result of a bee sting. Apparently, Gobert has a beehive that he tends to? I don’t really know all the details, but I do know that this definitely doesn’t hurt the Mavericks. Maybe Gobert’s face swelling goes down by tipoff, but it certainly isn’t any type of advantage for him/the Jazz.

Regardless, the Mavericks head back to Utah seeking to closeout the series in six games. Interestingly enough, this Game 6 lands 21 years to the date that Dirk Nowitzki secured his first playoff series win… in Utah. I’m not one to look at past teams’ success/failures as an indicator of future outcomes, but hey it would certainly look beautiful in the history books that Luka gets his first playoff series win 21 years later in the same city.

Despite a disappointing Game 4 loss that could’ve given the Mavs a 3-1 lead, Dallas responded with a 25-point blowout in Game 5. I expect to see this team to come out on a mission this evening out in Utah.

The confidence is at an all time high, after Rudy Gobert claimed he has had enough of the ‘talk’. Well, the Mavericks let the scoreboard do the talking in Game 5, even though there were some words exchanged with Hassan Whiteside.

Luka stated, “I’ll go to war with this team”. That isn’t just because he know teammates like Dorian Finney-Smith will defend him. It’s also because of the grit this team has shown defensively. We haven’t seen a better defensive performance from Dallas than in Game 5. To me, that’s where the war has been fought this series. Mavs in 6.
