The 2022 Texas Rangers are shaping up to be a team that is carried by their stars. Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Jon Gray, and Adolis Garcia are set to carry most of the load this upcoming season.
Although the stars will be the head of the ship, there will be under-the-radar contributors. Here are three dark horse contributors for the Rangers in 2022.
RHP Greg Holland – Greg Holland was signed by the Rangers to a minor league deal to a 1 year $10 million dollar contract. Many people get flashbacks to the Ian Kennedy signing last offseason which worked out well for Texas. Holland has performed well thus far in Spring Training and is making a run to be in the back end of the Rangers bullpen.
INF Matt Carpenter – Matt Carpenter turned down several Major League contracts to come play for the Rangers on a minor league deal. Carpenter’s versatility may land him a spot on the big league team. The Fort Worth native has a chance to make a solid impact as a utility player and could make some noise at the plate.
RHP AJ Alexy – The biggest question remaining for the Rangers is “Who is going to be the number five starter? If AJ Alexy can win that job he has a solid chance to break out. Alexy was 3-1 with a 4.70 ERA last year. Alexy has had success to this point in the spring and will look t bring that success into the regular season.
