Before the MLB lockout, the Rangers were the most active team in all of baseball in terms of making upgrades.
Jon Daniels and Chris Young plan to continue that when the new CBA is negotiated.
Though the Rangers have been and will continue to be very active in the free-agent market, however, they will also look to upgrade the team through trade.
Here are 3 potential trades that the Texas Rangers could make.
Trade 1
Yankees Receive – Isiah Kiner Falefa, A.J Alexy, Davis Wendzel
Rangers Receive – Deivi Garcia, Josh Breaux
This trade is based on the pre-lockout rumors that the Yankees are interested in Isiah Kiner Falefa and the fact that the Rangers need to upgrade the starting rotation. The Rangers would be getting Deivi Garcia, a young Yankees pitcher with tons of potential, and Josh Breaux, a catcher.
Garcia has had a small taste of the big league level, but with the Yankees, the crowded rotation situation has not had much of an opportunity. In return, the Yankees would receive Isiah Kiner Falefa as the main piece and A.J Alexy and Davis Wendzel, two prospects that help balance out the deal.
Trade 2
A’s Receive – Justin Foscue, Owen White, Avery Weems, Bubba Thompson
Rangers Receive – Matt Olson
The A’s reportedly have a high price tag for Matt Olson, and the Rangers have been rumored to be interested. Olson has been one of the best first basemen in all of baseball in the last few seasons. Last season Olson hit .271 with 39 home runs and 111 RBIs.
Not to mention Olson carries a superstar-level glove over at 1st base. However, this is going to cost the Rangers a lot. In this trade, I have Texas giving up 4 major prospects, including #4 Rangers prospect Justin Foscue who was a first-round pick in 2020.
Trade 3
Diamondbacks Receive – Nick Solak, Josh H. Smith, Glenn Otto
Rangers receive – Ketel Marte, Levi Kelly

This trade is completely a guess of mine. The Rangers have not reportedly been interested in Marte; I’m just going based on the fact that Marte is rumored to possibly be traded. The Rangers would still like to gain one more solid outfielder this offseason, and Marte could be a fit.
The Diamondbacks center fielder still has 3 years of control left. This trade would not come easy for the Rangers as I have them giving up Nick Solak, a young big-league player, Josh H Smith, a top 10 prospect, and Glenn Otto, who showed flash in the big leagues last year.
