Dallas traded this year’s first-round selection and their 2023 first-round selection away in the 2019 Kristaps Porzingis trade, and they dealt this year’s second-round selection away in last year’s trade for JJ Redick and Nicolo Melli.

It was a quiet night for the Dallas Mavericks with new GM Nico Harrison not making any moves on draft night. Although many expected the Mavs to stay out of the draft, they are looking to build around their young star Luka Doncic with a star-free agent as the goal is to win right now.

With no picks on draft night and no big trades being made yet, there is now a lot of pressure on the front office in free agency, which begins August 2.

Kyle Lowry has been the hot topic in Dallas as he is an unrestricted free agent this summer and looks like a top target for the Mavericks to sign. The Mavericks also look like they want to bring back Tim Hardaway Jr to the team. If they want to sign both Hardaway and Lowry or another star-free agent, they will have to free up some cap space quickly.

The Mavericks recently traded Josh Richardson to the Boston Celtics for Moses Brown, solving part of the cap space problem, but they still need to create more room if they want to sign a touted free agent.

It will be an exciting few days for the Mavericks as they will have to make a couple of big moves in a limited amount of time if they want to make a big splash in free agency.
