The playoffs are starting to slip away from the Dallas Stars. They have lost control of their own destiny and now the season is teetering on the edge of missing the playoffs. One bright spot is the play of Jason Robertson. Robertson is lighting the lamp consistently this season so finding himself as a finalist for the Calder Trophy won’t be shocking.

They have a bright future ahead with Robertson. Recording 9 goals and 16 assists in 33 games, he is bringing the heat in the goal-scoring department. The pride of Arcadia, California was the 39th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. No matter his point-production, the Stars are losing ground in the playoff race.

The Nashville Predators are 9-1-0 in their last 10 games, knocking the Stars way out of the playoff hunt. The Stars now only have an 11% chance of qualifying. No matter the season outcome, they have lots of positives to look forward to once everything returns to normal. It’s difficult to think what “normal” is after Covid-19 decimated our very way of life. The Stars still have playoff chances but they are starting to fall down the ladder.

Kirill Kaprizov of the Minnesota Wild dominates in the Calder Trophy race with 16 goals and 18 assists so Robertson doesn’t seem the favorite but he is second. No Stars player ever won the Calder Trophy. We’ll see what happens from now until the end of the season.

Two steps forward and two steps back summarize the Stars this season. They are .500 yet again at 14-14-10. Upcoming games need a W stamped on the calendar or they are participants in the Draft Lottery.

Robertson joined Roope Hintz and Joe Pavelski as the “1st Line.” These three players are the top three on the team in terms of points production. Young players paired with the grizzled veteran Pavelski gives them good production on offense.

Missing the playoffs obviously hurts and while they are still in the hunt, fans need to prepare for the possibility. This season has not gone well for the Stars, winning 14 out of 38 games. Robertson is one of the highlights the Stars can look forward to for the future. Robertson is a great depth player that has no problem holding the goal-scoring spotlight.
