Jesús Ferreira and Tanner Tessmann featured in the US National Team game against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday. In a game that the USMNT won by a touchdown, our FC Dallas boys played a major role in Gregg Berhalter’s side.
With a Man of the Match performance by Jesús and Tanner making his national team debut, it certainly was a night neither of them would forget.

Man of the Match Jesús Ferreira scored twice and had a hat-trick of assists while playing in a false nine role. Involved in five out of the seven goals scored, Jesús stood out as a bright spot for the USMNT against a lesser opponent.

Playing as a false nine, Jesús would drop into the midfield at times to receive the ball at his feet, turn, and play a teammate into space.

This style is shown below in his wonderful ball into Paul Arriola:

Not only did Jesús Ferreira assist his teammates, but he was able to get into the goal-scoring fun as well. Both finishes showcase his clinical ability to find the space and slot it past the keeper.

We hope that this game signals a better 2021 season for Jesús Ferreira. After only netting one goal for Dallas in 2020, he knows more than anybody that this game was a great confidence booster.

The question is, where does Luchi see him?

Luchi dropped him into the midfield for 2020, but does this game convince him enough that Jesús deserves to be our number nine? The competition between Ferreira, Jara, and Pepi is going to be one to watch for 2021.

Another shining star of Sunday’s game, Tanner Tessmann. Tessmann came on for his USMNT debut in the 78th minute replacing Aaron Herrera. With not enough time to truly show the talent that we all know Tanner has, he was still able to distribute the ball and make a couple of important passes.

Still, what a night for a kid on a meteoric rise.

Also, not to eclipse Tanner Tessmann’s achievement, but Clemson Football head coach Dabo Swinney was there supporting his godson.

He was even sporting an FCD jersey!

What a moment for Tanner and his family.

Both of our boys played very well for the USMNT on Sunday and proved they deserve to be in the national team conversation.
Let’s hope they can both continue this good form into the 2021 season for FC Dallas!
