One of the more intriguing prospects of this upcoming 2020 NFL Draft is LSU S Grant Delpit.

The standout from Houston, TX put up phenomenal numbers as a sophomore in 2018 and then fell off with a down year due to some injuries in LSU’s national title run in 2019.  He is a player that should be there with the 17th pick, however, after his 2019 season many questions have come up, especially relating to his tackling.

Prior to this past season Delpit, he was widely considered a top 5 pick and the top safety in the class.  He has great size at 6’ 3” and 200 lbs and speed with a 4.39 40 time. He is a player who has everything it takes to be an elite safety and the next level.  The main question is if he can put everything together to be this Pro Bowl player he has the potential to be.

His stellar 2018 season where he put up 74 tackles, 5 picks, and showed impressive versatility with 5 sacks is what really opened eyes to scouts.

I still believe that despite this 2019 season he is a player that is definitely worth a first-round pick. He can do everything out there and would be an excellent replacement for Jeff Heath and in the long term be an upgrade for Mike Nolan’s defense.

A positive update about this is that the Cowboys did a virtual video meeting with Delpit in the past week which shows a mutual interest.
Delpit is a player with extreme upside and is definitely worth strong consideration when the Cowboys are on the clock at No. 17 on April 23rd.
