The Cowboys announced their decision to send qualifying offers to bring back restricted free agents TE Blake Jarwin and current backup QB Cooper Rush.

Jarwin will be brought back for $3.2 million and Rush will be back to relieve Prescott at $2.1 million.  Jarwin is the more important of the two as if legend and first-ballot Hall of Famer Jason Witten decides to follow former HC Jason Garrett to New York or anywhere else, he becomes our starter.

Jarwin has flashed potential over his time with the team including a 7 catch, 119-yard, 3 touchdown performance in Week 17 vs. the Giants. However, he has never managed to sustain much long term consistent production.

Rush has never seen any significant playing time, as he has only appeared in 5 games throwing for 2 yards on 3 attempts.  Even though Dak has been extremely durable, it is essential to have a reliable backup QB in this league. A team never knows when a QB can go down, especially seen with the Eagles during their 2017-2018 Super Bowl run.

The team (hopefully McCarthy) have trust that Rush can be the guy if something were to happen to Prescott. This has to instill confidence in him going forward, and really makes me think that the organization is backing him.

These signings won’t make headline news, but they are two players who can potentially have a big impact on this upcoming season.
Players like these are glue guys, who can step up big if we want to go on the playoff run that this team is capable of going on.
